About The Role

Christ Church is a living evangelical Christian community based in North London. We come from many different backgrounds and nationalities but at our heart is a genuine faith in Jesus Christ, who makes God known through the Bible and who is active in our world now.

We are looking for an experienced, capable, well organised administrator, familiar with how churches work, to run the church office. The person will work in conjunction with the vicar and church members and so will need to be able to work in harmony within our Christian ethos.

  • To be the primary point of contact for the church dealing with email, phone calls, the post
    and visitors.
  • To work closely with the vicar and church council.
  • To liaise with the Church Wardens over finding contractors when needed for both the church
    and hall, and providing them access to the church when they need to be on site to carry out
    regular servicing of machinery and repairs.
  • To provide the required information for and to co-ordinate church services, events and
    meetings.
  • To maintain the church records for example for baptisms, funerals, weddings, records.
  • To maintain the electronic storage of documents on Google Docs in an orderly way making
    them easily accessible to those authorised to do so.
  • To produce a weekly electronic newsletter and other documents and flyers about events as
    required and to maintain the church website and Facebook page.
  • To support the treasurer by passing on invoices to ensure prompt payment and to provide
    financial information to the Church Treasurer as required.
  • To respond to emails, mail and take action as appropriate, and to send out communications
    on behalf of the vicar and PCC.
  • To respond to phone calls and visitors sensitively as some may be calling about difficult
    situations
  • To maintain the online calendars of church events, mission and maintenance and alert the
    vicar / PCC of any issues (e.g. preparatory steps needed for events, possible double
    bookings).
  • To liaise with the hall manager, hall administrator and hall cleaner to ensure the smooth and
    coordinated running of the church hall in regards to the church hall.
  • Preparing and checking when contracts need to be renewed as required (Insurance,
  • Safeguarding Policies, DBS checks, utility companies) and advising the PCC.
  • We are ideally looking for someone who has church administrative experience. Experience of
    working with a variety of people from all walks of life is also desirable.
  • The person will work in conjunction with the vicar and church members so will need to be able to work in harmony with our Christian ethos.
  • A familiarity with standard office software (Word, Excel, Google Docs etc) is required and someone willing to learn new systems.
  • The person must be computer literate and have used a variety of software and programmes in the past.
  • They must be willing to undergo induction training for any new software you may need to use.
  • Although the post will require quite a bit of solitary work, the person must have excellent team
    working skills as this is an important part of this role.
  • Clear communication skills are essential, as are very good time management and organisational skills.
  • The person must be able to proactively build relationships with and be supportive to users,
    colleagues and those contacting the church sometimes in distress.
  • We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, a good communicator, level headed and not
    easily perturbed.
